The glacier spawns dozens of outlet tongues, each carving its own valley through basalt and rhyolite, and beneath several of these tongues, winter's sub-zero temperatures stabilise natural ice caves formed by meltwater channels. These chambers exist in a state of permanent flux: summer runoff reshapes them annually, winter cold locks them into temporary architecture, and by spring they collapse or flood.
